Job Purpose The Finance Assistant will provide a range of finance, budget, and accounting support services to facilitate effective financial management and decision-making in the Cox’s Bazar office. This role supports efficient WFP operations in a fast-paced humanitarian environment.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities (Main Duties)
- Perform specialized and/or standardized financial processes and activities, supporting alignment with wider WFP policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets, providing information for financial analysis and reports.
- Process payments, invoices, and other financial transactions accurately and timely.
- Reconcile accounts, verify data, and maintain financial records.
- Support audit preparations and respond to routine queries from staff and partners.
- Handle petty cash, vendor payments, and other day-to-day finance operations.
- Contribute to the improvement of internal controls and financial procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required in support of WFP’s finance unit.
Standard Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is desirable.
- Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in finance, accounting, or related areas (experience in UN/common systems or NGOs is an advantage).
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of financial management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in using MS Office (especially Excel) and financial software/systems.
- Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural team.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Language: Fluency (level C) in both oral and written English and Bangla. Knowledge of Chittagonian dialect is an asset for field interactions in Cox’s Bazar.
